The kids come running through the door after school and head right to the refrigerator. So we’ve whipped up ten very easy after school snack ideas to keep their hunger at bay until dinnertime!
1. Cheese and Crackers
An oldie, but a goodie—yummy cheese and crackers! You can use string cheese or cut the cheese up into cubes. Pair with simple crackers or make it a little fancy with party style crackers.
2. Fruit cup
Nothing is more nutritious, or delicious, than a fruit cup. You can put together a giant fruit salad the night before and serve into smaller, kid friendly portions or serve a single type of fruit if time is of the essence!
3. Trail mix
Trail mix is a great after school snack idea. Put together some nuts (barring any allergies of course) raisins, popcorn and even some chocolate chips!
4. Pita bread with hummus
Pita bread with hummus is quick, easy, delicious and nutritious. To make it more fun, you can cut the pita bread into fun shapes or designs!
5. Celery with peanut butter
Ants on a log anyone? Cut celery into small, thin slices slather some peanut butter on top and add some raisins. You have ants on a log that is sure to be a hit with the after school crowd.
6. Banana bread or muffins
This is a snack best baked before the school bus hits your house. If you have time, bake some banana bread or some banana muffin. This is an excellent, and filling, treat on a rainy day.
7. Fruit smoothies
You’ll need fruit, yogurt, some juice and a blender to make yummy fruit smoothies. These are the ideal treat to pair with fun cups and straws!
8. English muffin pizza
Whole wheat English muffins make the perfect base for pizza. Add sauce, cheese, and all your favorite toppings!
You can never go wrong with yogurt. You can even spoon some yogurt into a bowl and make a nice dip with some fresh fruit on the side to go with it.
There’s nothing wrong with leftovers for a snack. If you have some leftovers from dinner the night before, throw it into the microwave and voila you have an instant after school snack!
