Whether you’re a celebrity or not, coparenting is difficult. Sure, it’s not as difficult as being an average Joe like us but still, it doesn’t mean celebs don’t have some wise words about how to make the situation a little better.
Nick Cannon, who is divorced from Mariah Carey, opened up on the Ellen DeGeneres show about how he and his ex-wife make things work when parenting their two children. “It’s all about unconditional love,” he said. “And knowing because they were so young, this is what they know: They know Mommy and Daddy still love each other, but more importantly they love us.”
He and Carey have been seen celebrating the holidays together, which if possible, is always good for the children. Other divorced celebrities like Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin also celebrate big occasions together as a family.
If you’re thinking about spending the holidays with your ex, Psychology Today points out that it could be very beneficial for children, however, it’s important that kids know that you two aren’t going to get back together.
It’s also noteworthy to make sure that when celebrating together, that you notify family members, who will also be there, to be on their best behavior. Many times it’s outsiders who will cause tension or say something inappropriate.
All in all, every situation is different, and perhaps spending time with your ex isn’t in your agenda. That’s okay. As long as the children know everything is fine and they are loved.
